Here are some helpful pitching tips:
* When you're pitching, make sure you use your legs and push off of the mound.
* Keep your glove down when you're fielding.. there's nothing more embarising than missing a ground bal because it rolled right under your glove.
* Keep your head and stay calm, in the batters box, on the field, in the dugout, everywhere.
* Stay back on the pitches, especially if you're used to a faster one.
* Dream about what you want to do and want to become.. it helps make the dream more real.
* Face your weaknesses and work harder on them versus the things that you know you're better at.
* Don't change your swing during or else right before the season.. it'll just screw you up for the rest of your season.
* Make each swing count!
* Stay loose at the plate
* Adjust your placement in the box according to the pitcher that you're facing.. if she's slower move up, if she's faster take a step or 2 back.
* Always do a full warm up! Regardless of where you play.
* Don't land sideways on your stride leg for pitching, if you do you risk potential ankle, knee, or hip problems.
* Before you start your pitch visualize a dotted line showing you exactly where the pitch is going to go.
* Make sure that you pick the right glove and size for your position on the field.. why would you want a catchers glove if you're playing second base?
* Take care of your glove! Make sure that YOU work it in yourself and not someone else.
* Know your primary position inside and out.. if you want to keep playing it that is.
* Make sure that you take time off when needed. Don't stress your muscles.
* Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.. it'll help you focus and help calm you down.
* Manage your stress. If you let it get to you while you're out on the field, then you're just screwing yourself over.
* Never go hungry.. softball requires mental sharpness, alertness, and quick judgement to perform. If you attempt playing on an empty stomach than you're just endangering yourself.
* Go for sports drinks like "powerade" or "gatorade".. not only do they rehydrate you, but they also refil your energy levels.
* Drink water though also. It rehydrates you and helps get you to where you need to be.
